Risk Model Expert

Role purpose: Design, validate, and maintain risk models that support sound decision-making, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management across the organization.

Key responsibilities

Develop, enhance, and document quantitative risk models (e.g., credit, market, liquidity, operational) across the model lifecycle.
Perform model validation, back-testing, benchmarking, and sensitivity analysis; identify limitations and propose remediation.
Monitor model performance and stability; define thresholds, alerts, and ongoing monitoring frameworks.
Translate business and regulatory requirements into model specifications, assumptions, and data needs.
Partner with stakeholders (risk, finance, analytics, IT) to ensure model governance, approvals, and audit readiness.
Ensure data quality and lineage; support model implementation and production controls.
Prepare clear reporting for model risk committees and senior leadership.

Required skills and qualifications

Risk modeling expertise: statistical modeling, risk quantification, and model risk management.
Methods: regression, time series, scorecards, machine learning fundamentals, stress testing, scenario analysis.
Tools: Python and/or R, SQL; familiarity with model deployment and version control is preferred.
Data: feature engineering, data validation, and reproducible analysis.
Governance: model documentation, validation standards, and regulatory expectations.
Communication: ability to explain complex models to non-technical audiences.

Broaden your horizon as a Risk Model Development Expert at the Head Office of the Netherlands’ largest insurance company. In this role you will strengthen NN Group’s internal model by developing and improving risk models using advanced modelling techniques. Your contribution will directly support the capital needs of NN to remain financially robust and future-proof.

What you are going to do

You will use your vast experience to strengthen our financial models. This role has as primary focus on the development of our internal risk model. This internal model calculates different risks, from credit and equity risk to longevity and persistency risk. Although, this role has a special focus on the in the internal model, you can also engage your expertise on other uses of the internal model uses or on our standard formula.

You will be part of the PIM Coordination team and operate like an internal risk consultant, ensuring our models fits best our risk profile and business needs. Also, you will support in the implementation and further use of our internal model.

Who you are

You are a strong communicator and dedicated team player, able to explain complex topics clearly to senior management and colleagues across the organisation. You liked to be challenged in a dynamic environment. You have a leading and result-driven mindset. You also have:

You currently live in the Netherlands
A Master’s degree in econometrics, actuarial science, quantitative finance or a relevant technical background
At least 5 years of proven experience in risk modelling, preferably experience in development of financial / market risk models
Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills, a good understanding of Solvency II and related Internal Models for the insurance industry
Modelling skills and an eagerness to develop these skills further. Experience with data management is also relevant for the role
Experience with programming and / or AI is a plus

You will join the PIM Coordination Team, which is part of the Risk Models & Analytics (RM&A) department at NN Group’s Risk organisation. This team acts as an overarching development and internal consultancy team (“Flying Squad”) for NN Group’s Internal Model.
