Lloyd’s chief actuary Emma Stewart was only 30 when she was put in charge of an insurance set-up as complicated as its famous office building. She explains how she embraces the role, alongside mentoring and motherhood.
After passing through the steampunk exterior, security gates and snaking escalators of the Lloyd’s of London building in the City, I meet chief actuary Emma Stewart, not long before she embarks on maternity leave.
The serenity of the 11th-floor meeting room is a world away from the frenetic activity below. The space is peppered with reminders of the insurance market’s rich past, its corridors adorned with paintings depicting scenes from its historic underwriting room.
